Annabeth didn’t really have a “normal” experience when it comes to her education. A lot of campers go back to their normal lives outside of camp after the summer ends, but Annabeth’s remained there every single summer since she was seven, with a few short exceptions. Basically, Annabeth doesn’t leave camp, and therefore doesn’t attend normal mortal school. So what’s her education look like? What is she educated in, and how did she learn?
                           *:·゚✧ PUBLIC SCHOOL *:·゚✧
From the time she was old enough to start attending school to the age of seven, Annabeth went to typical, normal mortal school, where she constantly struggled because of her dyslexia and ADHD. Part of Annabeth’s confusion later on when Athena claims her is because of her experience in public school— she was not a good student, and had mediocre grades at best. Her school didn’t really put much of an effort into helping her when it came especially to her dyslexia, so Annabeth associated school with plain old misery, and learned very little.
           *:·゚✧ CAMP HALFBLOOD EDUCATION *:·゚✧
There’s no way that there was no education whatsoever at camp. While summers were reserved for training, the rest of the school year had to involved some sort of academic curriculum. Since all demigods face the same issue of dyslexia, classes— run, I assume, by Chiron or older campers. Annabeth seems to be one of the oldest Athena campers, since she takes over the position as cabin counselor— are taught in either Ancient Greek or campers are given books/etc. in English with more dyslexic-friendly fonts.
Annabeth’s main focus at camp was with her training, however. Now that she knew she was a demigod and had been claimed, Annabeth’s academic focus was more on how she could become the best hero rather than the smartest student. She put far more effort into her training than she did into her classes, which she saw as a better use of her time.
Then, of course, her father sent her his class ring. This changed Annabeth’s view a little bit. While she shared many characteristics with her divine mother, the ring reminded her of the connecting piece between Athena and her mortal father— intelligence. Athena is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, while Frederick Chase was a professor. So Annabeth— reluctantly, at first— threw herself back into the world of standard academia.
*:·゚✧ FINDING HER ACADEMIC CALLING *:·゚✧
Annabeth excelled at a few things above all when it came to school. She was incredibly good at math, and she had a deep fondness for art. Other things like science and literature— her father’s specialty— weren’t really her thing, but math and art became her two favorite subjects. She would spend hours working on both, and her little corner of her cabin became nothing but drawings and books on advanced mathematics.
It was a suggestion from Chiron that actually got her thinking seriously about being an architect. After an unfortunate incident during Capture the Flag, part of the infirmary got destroyed. Chiron suggested that Annabeth work up a plan to repair the building. Thinking it was just another task that Chiron was making her do— she is, in my version of her, one of Chiron’s most trusted campers, and giving her tasks isn’t uncommon— so she got out her notebook and started planning. She convinced Hephaestus’ cabin to come help her out, and they reconstructed the infirmary based on her design. Chiron decided to encourage Annabeth’s interest in architecture, providing her with books on the subject and letting her redesign small parts of camp when they needed repairs. As more campers came in, Annabeth helped with expanding cabins to make room— especially Hermes’ cabin, since a lot of unclaimed campers ended up staying there until their godly parent claimed them, if they ever did.
She also did a lot of the rebuilding and redesign after Camp Halfblood was attacked. Receiving Daedalus’ laptop was something that really pushed her to the next level when it came to her abilities as well, giving her ideas and a platform to improve them on.
               *:·゚✧ BEING NAMED ARCHITECT *:·゚✧
Annabeth is named as Architect of Olympus, and is able to put her plans into action on a scale she never thought was possible. This was Annabeth’s proudest moment and greatest piece. Architectural decisions all fell upon her, and she created a new Olympus that was better than the first.
After this, Annabeth felt like she’d hit her peak. How can you follow up building Olympus? Annabeth eventually returned to camp, and realized after a small amount of time in-between quests that she wasn’t done learning.
*:·゚✧ RETURN TO MORTAL ACADEMIA *:·゚✧
Annabeth decided that she wanted to finish her typical mortal education, and graduate from mortal school. However, she didn’t know where to begin. She hadn’t gone to public school in years, and had no idea where to even start.
It was then that Annabeth turned to Paul Blofis, Percy’s stepdad. They’d always gotten along with each other, and Paul encouraged Annabeth’s renewed interest in achieving her academic goals. Understanding of both the desire for education and Annabeth’s unique circumstances, he helped her study up, and made special arrangements for her to get her GED, and even take the SATs. She had the option to attend college if she chose to, and after talking to her father, Annabeth thought that she really might try to have a normal, mortal college experience.
           *:·゚✧ COLLEGE & LATER EDUCATION *:·゚✧
Luck would have it that Annabeth could have the best of both worlds. She decided to attend Jupiter University at Camp Jupiter with Percy, and continued to pursue her love of architecture there.
